Swarovski crystals have played a major part in Gaultier’s aesthetic for decades. His Summer 2014 couture show in Paris this January included fifteen garments featuring Swarovski’s latest co-operation with Gaultier: Crystal Spikes and Studs. Now Swarovski is presenting these avant-garde, 3D-shaped styles.
Double Spike Bead, Spike Pendant, Spike Banding, and Spike Rivets (Round and Square).
Exemplified by the punk rock-inspired, vintage-look ‘Diamond Rocker’ vest in Gaultier’s Summer 2014 couture collection, Crystal Spikes and Studs are perfect for conjuring fiercely edgy, high-glam designs with a contemporary luxe appeal.
About the designer
Fêted for his startling originality, technical prowess, and maverick approach to design, Jean Paul Gaultier quickly became known as ‘l’enfant terrible’. Hired at eighteen by Pierre Cardin, then Jacques Esterel, Jean Patou, and Hermès, he launched his own collection in 1976. But it was the conical bras and basques for Madonna’s 1990 Blond Ambition tour that sealed his reputation, along with costumes for Kylie Minogue and filmmakers Luc Besson and Peter Greenaway. In 1997, he established Gaultier Paris, fulfilling his dream of creating haute couture with a risqué, gender-bending, deconstructed aesthetic.

Application & Usage Information ~
Same application as with already available Rivets.
The necessary tools for the application with the fly press or the hand held rivet press can be ordered via Customer Service.
Already available vacuum adapter (art. 9040/105) can be used for the application.
For the application of Spike Rivets, the following upper dies are needed:
Spike Rivet 53 010: art. 9040/123 (spare part: art. 9040/124)
Spike Rivet 53 011: art. 9040/125 (spare part: art. 9040/126)
Spike Rivet 53 503: art. 9040/127 (spare part: art. 9040/128)
The spare part is integrated into the upper die as standard part, but should be changed when it becomes worn.
For the application of the Spike Rivets, existing lower dies are used. Use lower die art. 9070/010 (for the Back Part 53 007) or art. 9070/012 (for the Back Part 53 009) or, when applying no Back Part, lower die art. 9040/015.
Spike Rivets can be applied to fabrics with thickness of 2 mm to 3 mm.
Care instructions: hand wash and dry-cleaning (P, F and W).
Due to their geometric shape the Spike Rivets should not be applied too close together in order to avoid damage.
